FreeCycle, freebies and recycling – how freecycle works, how to get the best freebies and recycling things you don’t use.

freecycle freebies recycling and how to use freecycle
Freecycle is a great resource for recycling stuff you no longer need and finding unique freebies!

If you’re like me you have acquired lots of stuff around your house that you either no longer use or don’t even remember what it’s for how it works. This stuff just seems to accumulate in closets, attics, basements and garages. In my case we can even use our brides because it’s all cluttered with stuff. But there is a cure for that – it’s called freecycle and it’s a great place for recycling things you no longer use and to get great freebies from others.

What exactly is freecycle? It’s kind of like a craigslist but where nothing is sold and everything is given away free. The only catch is you have to pick it up and you have to be fairly prompt in responding to someone’s listing if you want something decent. Laggards will only find junk.

Now it is true that one man’s trash is another man’s treasure, but for the laggards it’s mostly trash. The rules of freecycle is simple. You can post items that you want to get rid of and you can also post requests for items that you’re looking for. They do not like commercial posts at all. So if you plan on reselling things on Ebay or elsewhere the users will catch on fairly quickly and your account will be closed.

There are freecycles for most major cities throughout the United States (similar to Craigslist). With freecycle you’ll see many posts of used freebies like baby clothes, child car seats, gardening and planting stuff, toys, books, etc… basically it’s everything that you can find your local Goodwill for free.

If there’s a freebie that you like on your local Freecycle, then you reply to the posters e-mail and set up a time that is convenient for both you and the poster to pick up the item. Nothing can be sold for any value on Freecycle. If there’s something that you want but you don’t see you can feel free to post requests for that item as long as it’s something reasonable.

I saw a post on craigslist the other day were an individual was looking for a used UFO. Apparently a lot of people saw that and made some comments on it and then it was removed and flagged down. The same happens on freecycle. So respond wisely or else your account could be closed.

I have used freecycle to get rid of and recycle stuff I no longer use. Things that went really fast were an old lawnmower, a baby crib and carriage, a baby swing and some moving boxes. It seems that there’s always a demand for moving boxes and moving supplies probably because I live in a college town.

I have found freecycle to be a great resource for recycling things I no longer need. I haven’t found much on there in the way of used freebies that really interests me, but everybody’s different as to what interests them or floats their boat. If you haven’t used your local freecycle you need to check it out you never know what you could find on there. Besides you can always get rid of stuff you no longer need.
