My young son Steven wanted some baked beans so we went to Walmart and bought a can of Hanover Brown Sugar and Bacon baked beans. They were the same price as the Walmart Great Value brand plus they had brown sugar and bacon flavoring. The exact price was $1.47 for a 28 0z. can.
I think my son had a craving for baked beans because my wife was watching Dr. Oz and they had a segment on the show about the brain and somewhere in there they mentioned baked beans. I’m not sure exactly what effect baked beans has on the brain as I did not watch the show, but maybe it has to do with the low fat and high protein composition of most beans?
Anyways, so we bought the Hanover Brown Sugar and Bacon baked beans and we followed the directions for microwaving on the side of the can (cook on high for 2 to 3 minutes). Then we ate them. They tasted like regular baked beans, but a little sweet. A little too sweet if you asked me.
These baked beans were okay. They weren’t great. They needed a little TLC – something like a little chili powder, some real bacon pieces in it for a smokier flavor with some more pizzazz would have helped out big time. If you are willing to add a few things to it then the Hanover baked beans will suffice.
If, on the other hand, you want to eat them as is, then you may need to look something other brand of baked beans.
