I was recently looking at several of the ads that came in my Sunday newspaper and in particular is looking at Home Depot, Lowes and some other stores for plastic storage totes. I wanted to pick up some extra plastic storage totes for storing Christmas ornaments, kids toys, and more.
I noticed that the Home Depot and Lowes had the lowest priced ones for around four dollars or so for 18 to 20 gallon capacity plastic storage tote. Lowe’s had a slightly lower price, but Home Depot had colors that matched what we were looking for – like cappuccino, browns and tans. These colors would better match our kitchen and want your room where the storage totes were going to be placed.
So I went to Home Depot to go and pick up some of these mocha or cappuccino colored plastic storage totes. When I got to their store I noticed that the ones that were on sale in the advertisement were very cheaply constructed and made. These things were so bad that many of them had cracks or missing parts or pieces in the corners and the tops were very ugly looking.
So I looked around and I finally came upon a slightly smaller plastic storage tote with the Rubbermaid roughneck brand. This was 18 gallons in containment size versus the 20 gallon capacity of the ones they had advertised. So it was slightly smaller, but the construction and the quality of the plastic used in the roughneck storage containers is far better than the other ones.
I’m telling you it wasn’t even close between the two. Being that my kids were going to be using these plastic totes and I wanted storage totes that reform to last for many years I went with the Rubbermaid roughneck brand. the Tops and the containers just look on her percent better than the cheaper, non name brand ones.
I knew just by the feel and look of the Roughneck plastic storage totes that these were the right ones to use for my children’s toys and for frequently used storage items. not only would these be great for their children’s toys but there also can be great for Christmas ornaments and anything else that I wanted to store in the attic, the garage, the laundry room or elsewhere.
In the end I ended up paying probably almost twice for the Rubbermaid roughneck brand plastic storage totes, but I am very pleased and I’m sure these will last many many years. In the end I am sure that the actual cost will be last because I will not have to replace the Rubbermaid roughneck storage containers.
