I found this great website today for helping with teaching math to kids (Math-Drills.com). My child was having problems in his math class with learning and understanding fractions. He was having a problem with understanding how to add and subtract fractions especially when they have different denominators. he also need help with understanding how to use mixed numbers (like adding 5 1/2 and 6 2/3).
So I was looking online for a educational or learning website that might have some printable worksheets that we could use to help him better understand these concepts and better learn how to use fractions. I searched Google for free fractions work sheets and the first website I found was this Math-Drills.com.
Once I went to the website I found that it was extremely easy to navigate and find exactly what I was looking for. I was able to select the exact type of fractions that we wanted to work on and then it would print out a worksheet with maybe 20 problems on it and another worksheet with the answers on it. This is especially beneficial for parents that might be a little out of date with their understanding of difficult mathematical concepts and problems.
Within a period of just a few minutes I was able to print up over 20 worksheets for my child and I to work on together. The way I do it with my son is I have him start on it and see how far you can get with each problem. Then if he has a problem or get stuck I will intervene and help him but only enough to get him through that part of it.
I try not to solve the entire problem for him. I want him to develop his own critical thinking ability as I will not be able to take his tests for him and he needs to be able to do this stuff on his own. right now he hates math and fractions, but that is because I think they do a very poor job of teaching in a school. Public schools are not the best places for learning as we all know.
But, I can have a major hand in his education and the quality thereof by supplementing what he does in school at home. And this website Math-Drills.com, which is free to use, is really helpful in that aspect. At anytime I want I can go to this website and print off some worksheets that he and I can do. And as everyone knows learning mathematical concepts works best by repetition. The more times he sees it and the more examples he does the better he will get at it.
If you have a child and want to improve their grades or their learning of difficult mathematical concepts then you definitely need to visit Math-Drills.com. I highly recommend it.
