I bought a Kenmore Dishwasher from Sears about 2 years ago. I paid good money for this appliance – it takes me several months to save up enough money to buy a major appliance like this – things are tight here right now with the recession and the fact that my wife got her hours cut back at Wal-Mart. So I have to work an extra job to make up for the shortfall.
I trusted the name Sears as they have been in business for many, many years and my father had Sears Kenmore appliances and swore by them. So when I had to buy a dish washer (my previous one that came with my house quit working and it was going to cost as much to fix it as to buy a new replacement) I went to Sears and bought one of their middle level dishwashers.
I liked the upper level and more costly dishwashers they had at Sears, but I could not afford these. Maybe I would get lucky and in 10 years or so and things would turn around and I would be able to purchase a bigger house in a nicer neighborhood (there are lots of break-ins and car thefts in my neighborhood) with a nice upper level dishwasher. But that is not reality. Reality is that my family only brings in around $25,000 a year and that is just not in the budget and probably never will be.
So, I bought the Sears Kenmore dishwasher and about 9 months later it started making horrible, grinding and high pitched noises. I was lucky that the dishwasher still had it’s warranty in effect and it was fixed by Sears (the pump had short circuited and burned itself out). They fixed it and all was good for 4 more months. Then the dishwasher broke again.
This time it was the exact same problem as before and Sears refused to pay for the repairs because it was out of warranty. I told them that it was a repeat of the same problem the dishwasher had before. They didn’t care and were even a little put off that I would call them when my appliance was out of warranty. Sears clearly does not take care of their customers.
Once a product is out of warranty – that’s it. You have no help or anything from Sears. This dishwasher I had was clearly a lemon and was having a repeat issue/problem. This is a circumstance when Sears should take care of the customer and take care of the repair or replace the defective dishwasher regardless of whether or not it was covered by the warranty or just out of it.
This is a matter of standing behind your products and your store and brand name. Sears doesn’t do that and that is why they suck. They are no longer seen as a reliable company or good brand name. They are in the same dirty puddle with K-Mart, Wal-Mart and other low service crappy companies that don’t stand behind their products and deliver shoddy service.
My parents gave me the money to buy a new dishwasher and we went and bought a GE model. It has worked without a glitch since. We will never go back to Sears or buy any of their Kenmore brand items ever again. I don’t like the way Sears would not take care of or stand behind their product. I bought my GE dishwasher from HHGregg here in Concord NC.
If I can give you some advice stay away from Sears and their bad products and bad customer service. Go to HHGregg. They sell better quality appliances and provide better service.
